Today I was sitting with the kids and a couple of the girls were playing with my hair. They noticed that I have 3 piercings on both of my ears and one girl asked me if I am Christian. I have done Bible lessons with them multiple times and have Bible verses posted on the walls. I told her, "Claro. Soy Cristiana," which means "Of course I'm Christian." She told me that in her church if you have more than just the normal single piercing, that means you're not Christian. I tried to explain to her that piercings to not signify whether or not I'm Christian. That's the way it is here, though. Tattoos and piercings are looked down upon in the Christian environment. It is definitely different from back home.
I was sitting out on the balcany with one of the girls helping her study when another little girl came out and handed me an envelope she had made for me to put my earrings in. She told me that I am her 10th mom. The the girl I was studying with told me I am her 3rd mom. It melted my heart to hear that they think of me in that way. They are such special, sweet girls and I love them dearly.
